About Amanda

After a decade as an archivist, I embarked on a career transition to user experience design in May 2023. My experience developing and managing information systems to provide access to active and historical records sparked my interest in the design process and user-centred thinking. This curiosity led me to pursue a Certificate in UX Design from York University, which I completed in May 2024.

At York University, I excelled at design strategy and research leveraging my background in research, relationship building, and information architecture. I'm currently bridging my archival expertise with my newly acquired UX skills through freelance projects that tackle real user challenges and opportunities. This allows me to craft meaningful, user-friendly experiences while continuously refining my abilities and expanding my portfolio

Outside of my professional pursuits, I reside in Toronto with my partner and our husky. I have a penchant for all things vintage, macabre, and weird, which I believe will bring a unique perspective to my work in UX - or at the very least, will make me fun to work with. I invite you to view my resumé and more below.

More about Amanda

An Empathetic Perspective

From an early age, my interdisciplinary education fostered the ability to forge connections between seemingly unrelated concepts, whether epistemologically or systemically linked. This breadth of knowledge cultivated a deep sense of empathy, allowing me to pivot seamlessly and view situations through diverse perspectives. I can attune myself to the experiences of others, offering fresh insights that transcend conventional boundaries. My empathetic nature, coupled with an interdisciplinary background, equips me with a powerful tool for understanding complex issues with nuance and compassion, proposing innovative solutions by integrating multiple viewpoints and mental models.

Stitchcraft

In my free time, I like to craft as a form of self expression and a way to relax. In the past couple of years I have become particularly interested in block printing, cyanotyping, and embroidery. I was so enchanted by embroidery that I established an Instagram account, @loviitch_stitch, as a dedicated space to showcase. The name itself pays homage to my father, Randy, who affectionately referred to me as "Lovitch" with a Yiddish inflection – a portmanteau of "love" and "witch" which encapsulates the essence of my artistic endeavours. Feel free to view some of my creations below.
